Jörg Schweinitz

Jörg Schweinitz (* 1953 in Potsdam ) is a German film scholar .

Schweinitz studied art and cultural studies at the University of Leipzig from 1973 to 1978 and received his doctorate in 1981 with a study on film aesthetics. 1981–85 he was a research assistant at the University of Leipzig, Cultural and Art Studies Section, 1985–92 research assistant at the Academy of Arts in Berlin (East), film research area. From 1993–94 he was a Research Fellow at Princeton University .

Schweinitz received a habilitation scholarship from the DFG and completed his habilitation in 2002 at the University of Konstanz , but has meanwhile held substitute professorships, for example at the Free University of Berlin, the University of Klagenfurt , the Philipps University of Marburg , and the University of Chicago at the Ruhr University Bochum and at the University of Zurich . In 2006 he was appointed professor of media history at the Potsdam University of Film and Television in Babelsberg , and from 2007 to 2018 he was a full professor at the Department of Film Studies at the University of Zurich, where he was director from 2008 to 2013.
