Jörg Werner

Jörg Werner (born December 15, 1971 in Gotha ) is a German cycling manager.

Jörg Werner, himself an amateur - racers at TSV Erfurt, managed from 2006, the Thüringer Energie Team for road cycling and the Project Team Spirit of Erfurt train Sprinter with René Enders . Under his leadership, the regional team TEAG Team Köstritzer became the Continental Team Thuringian Energy Team with the main sponsor Thuringian Energy in 2006 . Its road team brought such successful drivers as Marcel Kittel , Tony Martin , John Degenkolb andPatrick Gretsch . In 2008 he also joined the organization of the International Tour of Thuringia . From 1999 Werner also organized the race around the Hainleite . His company is still responsible for the standing races on the Andreasried cycling track in Erfurt.

In summer 2013, TeamSpirit GmbH , of which he is the managing director, withdrew from the Thuringian Energy Team and from organizing the Thuringia Tour. He continued to be the personal advisor and manager of Kittel, Martin and Degenkolb. As a result, the International Tour of Thuringia 2014 was canceled for financial reasons.

For the 2016 season Werner became one of the sporting directors of the Luxembourg Leopard Development Team .

In March 2019, it became known that Werner was receiving general medical treatment from the mother of sports medicine specialist Mark Schmidt . Mark Schmidt was the main character in a doping scandal. Mother and son shared a practice. Werner told the newspaper Neues Deutschland that neither he nor the athletes he cared for were patients of Mark Schmidt.
