Jörg Zander

Jörg Zander (born February 15, 1964 in Ratingen ) is a German mechanical engineer . From March to June 2009 he was Technical Director of the newly formed Brawn GP Formula One Team .

Career

After completing his mechanical engineering studies at the University of Cologne in 1990, Zander moved as a project engineer to Toyota Motorsport GmbH , which is also located there , where he worked for six years. In 1996, Zander dared to switch to motorsport and worked as a race engineer for Opel Team Rosberg in the ITC racing series. After Opel (and Alfa Romeo ) left the ITC, the series was discontinued and Zander went back to his old employer Toyota. Here he initially acted as Chassis Engineering Manager for the Toyota GT-One as part of the Le Mans project . In 1999 Zander became head of the chassis & hydraulics development department. After Toyota's entry into Formula 1 in 2002, he moved to the British B A R team as chief engineer for Mechanics & Transmission , which had been participating in the F1 World Championship since 1999. In 2005 he switched to the traditional English racing team Williams , who worked with BMW as an engine partner. After the end of this partnership, Zander followed the call of the newly formed BMW Sauber F1 Team , with which the German automobile manufacturer would henceforth compete as an independent designer in Formula 1, and became chief designer there. After two years, he changed the racing team again at the beginning of 2008 and took up the post as deputy technical director Shuhei Nakamoto for the Honda Racing F1 Team . At the end of 2008, the Honda Group withdrew its Formula 1 team from the World Championship due to the global financial crisis and sold it to previous team boss Ross Brawn through a management buyout .

In the 2009 season , the team will participate under the name Brawn GP Formula One Team , while Zander has been promoted to Technical Director until his departure.

In 2010 he founded JZ Engineering GmbH based in the canton of St Gallen, Switzerland.

In April 2018 it was announced that Zander would be the new head of the aerodynamics department at Sauber F1 Motorsport .
