Jörn Merkert

Jörn Merkert (* 1946 in Wesermünde ) is a German art historian .

Life

Jörn Merkert began studying art history, archeology and history in Bonn and Berlin and was then from 1971 to 1979 assistant at the Nationalgalerie Berlin and personal assistant to Werner Haftmann . In 1971 he founded the video forum in the Neuer Berliner Kunsterverein with Wolf Vostell , Wolf Kahlen and Christian Wagner . It was the first collection of video art in Europe. In 1973 Jörn Merkert organized the event ADA actions of the avant-garde for the Neuer Berliner Kunsterverein . a. Artists such as Allan Kaprow , Wolf Kahlen and Wolf Vostell took part, who realized the Happening Berlin - Fieber . In 1974 Jörn Merkert organized ADA 2 . From 1979 to 1984 he worked as a scientific secretary in the fine arts department at the Academy of Arts in West Berlin. From 1984 to 1987 he was deputy director of the North Rhine-Westphalia Art Collection in Düsseldorf. From 1987 to 2010 he was director of the Berlinische Galerie , the state museum for modern art, photography and architecture.

In 1992 Jörn Merkert was elected a member of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin.

Publications

He has published numerous publications on the art of the 20th century, including Willem de Kooning , Wolf Vostell , Marwan and Karl Horst Hödicke .
