The Jüchnitz is an almost five kilometer long tributary of the Zahmer Gera in the Thuringian Forest west of Ilmenau .

The Jüchnitz rises in a wetland at Mönchhof (excursion restaurant) about 3 km east of Gehlberg as the crow flies, below Salzmannstraße at an altitude of about 750 meters. Your valley, the Jüchnitzgrund, leads in a northerly direction past the Jüchnitzteich between Mittelberg in the west and Hoher Warte in the east into Geraberg Kirchenholz . The Jüchnitz flows into the Zahme Gera from the right at the Braunsteinmühle Arlesberg .

The Jüchnitzgrund is a former mining area, here brownstone used to be mined, this mineral was processed in the Braunsteinmühle in Arlesberg . Today the mill is accessible as a technical monument with a café.

The wooded steep slopes of the Jüchnitz Valley are considered to be an area at risk of mountain damage , so when entering the valley you should pay attention to warning signs.

In the lower bottom portion is located at the former pit Morgenstern the Schullandheim of Geraberg , part of the rural community Geratal .

The signposted Braunsteinweg with numerous information boards leads through the valley from the mouth to the source .
