Jewish elementary school (Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jewish elementary school in Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl , a municipality in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in Baden-Württemberg , was an elementary school that was maintained by the Jewish community of Eichstetten . The Baden Jewish edict of 1809 allowed the Jewish communities to build their own schools, provided they covered the costs.

history

The school building with the teacher's apartment was built in 1840 at Bahlinger Straße 7. The Jewish elementary schools were dissolved with the introduction of simultaneous schools in the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1876. The Jewish school in Eichstetten continued as a religious school until the 1920s. After the synagogue was destroyed in the November pogrom in 1938 , a prayer room was set up in the school building in 1938/40.
