Jewish elementary school (Gemmingen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jewish elementary school in Gemmingen , a municipality in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg , was an elementary school that was maintained by the Jewish community of Gemmingen . The Baden Jewish edict of 1809 allowed the Jewish communities to build their own schools, provided they covered the costs.

The school building, built in 1867, which also housed the mikveh and the teacher's apartment, was on Schwaigerner Strasse. Behind it was the synagogue .

The Jewish elementary schools were dissolved with the introduction of simultaneous schools in the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1876. The Jewish school in Gemmingen was continued as a religious school.
