Jewish community of mills
A Jewish community in Mühlen , a district of Horb am Neckar in the Freudenstadt district in northern Baden-Württemberg , had existed since around 1800 and existed until 1921.
history
From 1832 to 1849 the Jewish community in Mühlen was a subsidiary of the Jewish community in Nordstetten .
Around 1800, Freiherr von Münch took in 13 Jewish families who lived in the former castle, which burned down in 1807. So the Jewish families were temporarily left homeless. The Jewish community had a synagogue (built in 1811/12), a Jewish school from 1833 to 1867, a ritual bath ( mikveh ) and a cemetery . The employed teacher was also active as a prayer leader and schochet . The community belonged to the Mühringen District Rabbinate , which was moved to Horb in 1914.
During the First World War , three sons of the Jewish trader Moritz Stein died: Lieutenant Bernhard Stein († August 9, 1916 in Russia), musketeer Karl Stein († October 15, 1917 in France) and private Otto Stein († June 4, 1918 in France) . Their names are on the war memorial in the communal cemetery.
In 1933 there were still three Jewish people living in the area who moved away shortly afterwards.
