A Jewish community in Toul in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the French region of Lorraine already existed in the Middle Ages .

history

In 1808 the Jewish community of Toul already had 534 members with a total population of approx. 7,500.

synagogue

The synagogue at 15, rue de La Halle was built around 1812 and rebuilt in the Moorish style in 1862 . The synagogue is since 1996 as a monument ( monument historique protected). The Torah shrine and the tablets of the law are still preserved, but the synagogue has not been used for worship for decades .

graveyard

The Jewish cemetery of Toul is on rue de Briffoux, along the railway line and opposite the Christian cemetery.
