The Jewish cemetery in Aschenhausen , a district of the city of Kaltennordheim in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in the south of Thuringia , was laid out at the beginning of the 18th century and was probably occupied until 1936. The Jewish cemetery with an area of ​​about 50 ares is located on the edge of the forest, about 150 meters west of the village exit. It can be reached via Kirchstrasse.

history

The first burial took place in 1707. The dead of the Jewish families from Kaltennordheim , Kaltensundheim and Oepfershausen were also buried in the cemetery. The oldest surviving tombstone is from around 1720. Today there are two large grave fields with a total of around 150 tombstones.

In 1994, the entire cemetery complex was prepared as part of a job creation scheme.
