Jewish cemetery (Hachenburg)
The Jewish cemetery Hachenburg is a cemetery in the town of Hachenburg in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . In 1991 it was placed under monument protection. The Jewish community of Hachenburg had 126 members in 1913 and 99 in 1932.
The Jewish cemetery is located on the north-eastern outskirts of the city in front of the Hachenburger Stadtwald on Dehlinger Weg (former name: Judenfriedhofsweg ) / Walter-Bernstein-Straße.
On the 4116 m² cemetery, surrounded by a newer stone wall, which was laid out in 1781 and occupied until 1937, there are 98 graves with 83 gravestones and a memorial stone from 1975 for the Jews who were persecuted and murdered in the city during the Nazi era . In 2011 the cemetery was extensively renovated.
Old graveyard
An old Jewish cemetery (Judenkirchhof) in Hachenburg is mentioned for the first time in 1587 (according to other information not until 1668). Its location is unknown. The cemetery was also used by Jews from surrounding communities.
