The Jewish cemetery in Kaiserslautern is a well-preserved Jewish cemetery in Kaiserslautern in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is a protected cultural monument .

The Jewish cemetery is located in the Christian cemetery , the main cemetery of the city of Kaiserslautern since 1873. This is between Mannheimer Straße (= B 37 ) and Donnersbergstraße. In the Jewish cemetery there are approx. 550 gravestones in 39 rows on an area of ​​3300 m² . Due to the influx of Jewish citizens from the countries of Eastern Europe, there is also a further need for space in the cemetery.

history

In 1858 the first burial took place in the newly established Jewish cemetery, located "Am Kahlenberg". 447 gravestones from the years 1858 to 1945 have been preserved; approx. 100 were set from 1945 to today (2009) for Jewish deceased from the former Soviet Union .

In 1928, 1931 and 1999 the cemetery was desecrated: gravestones were demolished or overturned.
