Oehringen Jewish cemetery
The Jewish cemetery Öhringen is a Jewish cemetery in Öhringen , a town in the Hohenlohe district in northern Baden-Württemberg .
history
The dead of the Jewish community in Öhringen were initially buried in the Jewish cemetery in Affaltrach and in the Jewish cemetery in Berlichingen . In 1910 a separate cemetery was built on the Galgenberg in the hallway Im Schönblick , which cost 10,000 marks with walling and a small cemetery hall ( Taharahaus ). The city of Öhringen gave a grant of 1,000 marks.
The first to be buried was the cattle dealer Isaak Herz, who was buried on August 21, 1911. Probably the last to be buried was Pauline Hirsch, wife of the horse dealer Leopold Hirsch, who was buried on May 15, 1939. In 1939 the Jewish community sold a previously unoccupied part of the cemetery property with a size of 67 ares to a farmer. This area of the cemetery was now separated from the burial ground by a fence and hedge and planted with fruit trees. After 1940 the cemetery was to be completely cleared and some of the tombstones had already been sold to stonemasons . After 1945 the tombstones were put up again. The ISRO presented in the postwar period a refund claim to the 1,939 sold part of the plot, but then agreed with the farmer to a retroactive payment.
The Jewish cemetery has an area of 9.22 acres ; today there are still 54 tombstones . Memorial plaques in the courtyard of the cloister commemorate the two Jews from Öhringen who fell in World War I.
