The Jewish cemetery in Bad Soden am Taunus is the burial place of the town's former Jewish community .

history

A synagogue in Bad Soden has been handed down as early as 1762 . It was abandoned around 1780 after the minyan could no longer be reached. With the rise of Soden as a spa town, Jews also flocked to the town as spa guests. The sanatorium for poor Israelites, founded by Baron Wilhelm Carl von Rothschild , made a major contribution to this . However, the desire to establish their own synagogue was rejected in 1835. The community is too small and there is no need for a synagogue for spa guests.

In 1847 a synagogue was opened at Neugasse 2. Since there was still no independent community, Lazarus Meyer was formally the owner. The Jews of Soden were members of the Niederhofheim community. It was not until later in the 19th century that Soden's own community was formed.

In 1873 the old Jewish cemetery Niederhofheim was closed and the Jewish cemetery Bad Soden opened. It served as a cemetery for the Jews living in Soden, Höchst with Unterliederbach, Okriftel , Hattersheim and Hofheim . There are 288 names in the cemetery register. In addition to members of the local Jewish communities, there are many spa guests or patients of the Israelitische Kuranstalt in Soden. A morgue was later built in the cemetery. This was devastated by the National Socialists in the November pogroms in 1938 . The area of the cemetery is 22.20 ares.

Today the cemetery is maintained by the civil parish.
