history

Town hall from 1717 in Niederhofheim

The oldest surviving documentary mention as Niderenhoven relates to the time around 1272. Niederhofheim was subject to frequent changes of rulership as the territory of the imperial knighthood . In 1633, Philipp Heinrich von Wachenheim , Nassau Oberamtmann in Usingen , acquired the place as an inheritance. In 1967 the Niederhofheim community included the three birds from his family coat of arms in its coat of arms in his memory. The grave slab of Philipp Heinrich's wife Rosina von Wachenheim geb. von Thüngen († 1623) is walled in at the Laurentiuskirche Usingen . In 1708 Lothar Johann Karl Freiherr von Bettendorf bought Niederhofheim from Nassau-Weilburg for the proud sum of 15,000 Reichstalers .

1803 Niederhofheim went to Nassau-Usingen and belonged to the time of the Duchy of Nassau for Office maximum .

In 1938 the Niederhofheim community forest was transferred to the Hofheim am Taunus area . On the occasion of the regional reform in Hesse , Niederhofheim and Oberliederbach voluntarily merged on December 31, 1971 to form the community of Liederbach.

religion

Christian communities

Niederhofheim was parish in Oberliederbach, which belonged to the Landgraviate of Hesse . When it had accepted the Lutheran confession in 1530, the Reformation gradually took hold of the population of Niederhofheim , too, under pressure from the Landgraviate .

Jewish community

While in the following years many surrounding princes tried to prevent the immigration of Jews through laws , a stately Jewish community of around 50 families soon formed in the Niederhofheim imperial knighthood community. A synagogue was built in the middle of the 18th century , which was closed after the community was dissolved in 1908 and sold after the end of the First World War . She survived the Reichspogromnacht in 1938 unmolested, but was demolished in 1962/63. The Jewish cemetery in Niederhofheim was established at the end of the 17th century.

coat of arms

On March 30, 1967, the Niederhofheim community was given a coat of arms with the following blazon : In blue, a golden bar and three golden, red-armored birds ( quails ) in the 2: 1 position. The three birds come from the family coat of arms of the Lords of Wachenheim and are supposed to be black thrushes (blackbirds). They are also often misinterpreted or depicted as quails in the aristocratic family and in the local coat of arms of their place of origin Wachenheim an der Pfrimm , as it was believed that the root of the name Wachenheim (Wachtelheim) could be derived from them.

Culture and sights

The village center of Niederhofheim is a listed building as a whole . It consists of a closed development with Central German court riding. The street view in the streets of Alt Niederhofheim and Haingraben shows densely lined up, mostly gable-side houses and many preserved roofed gate systems. In the north, the open course of the Liederbach demarcates the ensemble of monuments and here, as well as partially on Haingraben, offers an impression of the rear boundary of the village center with a barn wreath and house gardens.

The old town hall from 1714 to 1717 sets a special accent in the center of the overall complex. It was built as a two-storey half-timbered building with a half-hip roof and a baroque canopy roof turret.

traffic

Niederhofheim is located between Bundesstrasse 8 and Bundesstrasse 519 and is accessed from Landesstrasse L 3016, Höchster Strasse .
