The Jewish cemetery in Baiersdorf in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district ( Bavaria ) is located in the middle of town.

In the 4756 m² cemetery , which is located south of the Protestant cemetery, there are around 1130 gravestones in three burial fields , including many from the 18th century. The oldest tombstone dates from 1684, the youngest from 1937. The cemetery is surrounded by a massive stone wall. The wrought iron entrance gate bears a Star of David .

history

The cemetery was probably laid out at the end of the 14th century (around 1388). A Jewish burial place is mentioned for the year 1529.

During the Nazi era , the cemetery was desecrated in 1937 and during the November pogroms in 1938 .

A memorial stone was erected in 1980 for the Jews from Baiersdorf and the surrounding area who perished during the National Socialist era.
