history
When Thalmässing did not have its own cemetery, the deceased local Jews were buried in the Jewish cemetery in Georgensgmünd . The Thalmässing Jewish cemetery was inaugurated in 1832; its construction was made possible by donations from the Heidecker and Niedermair families. The first burial in the cemetery was that of Abraham Wallerstein on February 10, 1833.
During the Nazi era , the cemetery was desecrated and tombstones were destroyed and removed. When the site was occupied by US troops in 1945, the soldiers included the descendant of a Jew who was resident in Thalmässing and who used former NSDAP members to restore the cemetery. The removed tombstones have been returned, but are no longer in their original locations within the cemetery grounds.
In 1968 the tahara house of the cemetery was demolished.
