from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jewish cemetery Echzell is a cemetery in the municipality of Echzell in the Wetterau district in Hesse .

The 1004 m² Jewish cemetery is located east of the village directly on the edge of the forest between a parking lot at the edge of the forest and the sports field of the Lucius boarding school. There is no information about the number of tombstones .

history

The cemetery was probably created in the mid-1860s. With the construction of the synagogue in Echzell in 1863/64, the Jewish community moved from Bisses to Echzell. In connection with this, the cemetery in Bisses was abandoned and a new one was set up in Echzell. The oldest datable grave in the Echzell cemetery is from 1887. In 1931 the cemetery was desecrated : the entrance and several tombstones were smeared with swastikas and filthy inscriptions.
