Jewish cemetery (Recklinghausen)

The Recklinghausen Jewish cemetery is located in the town of Recklinghausen in the district of the same name in North Rhine-Westphalia . As a Jewish cemetery , it is an architectural monument . There are around 150 tombstones in the cemetery on Nordcharweg . In the south-western part there are 20 graves of the old cemetery .

History: The cemetery was initially occupied from 1904 to 1941. In 1927 it was expanded. During the Nazi era , the burial site was repeatedly desecrated and completely devastated during the November pogrom in 1938. In 1948 it was restored. Since then it has been occupied again.

Old graveyard

The old Jewish cemetery at the corner of Börster Weg and Börster Hegge was occupied from 1823 to 1903. There are no more tombstones on it. There is a children's playground there today.

History: In the early 1930s took place the reburial of the last 20 tombs with associated grave stones to the new cemetery on Nordcharweg. In 1937, the old cemetery area became the property of the city of Recklinghausen.
