Gelsdorf Jewish cemetery
The Gelsdorf Jewish Cemetery is a Jewish cemetery in Gelsdorf , a suburb of the Grafschaft municipality in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is a protected cultural monument .
The Jewish community of Gelsdorf had a cemetery since the beginning of the 17th century, because in 1609/10 a meadow is mentioned that was called Jueden Kirchhoff . Only the original cadastre from 1823 gives us precise information about the cemetery on the western edge of the village of Gelsdorf. From 1881 to 1940, a total of 29 burials were carried out in the 896 m² cemetery, which was not originally fenced. Today there are still 13 simple tombstones or tombstones from the period from 1897 to 1940. The dead came from Gelsdorf, Altendorf and Ersdorf .
The cemetery remained essentially undamaged during the Nazi era .
