Niederzissen Jewish Cemetery
The Niederzissen Jewish Cemetery is a Jewish cemetery in Niederzissen in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate, first mentioned in 1763 . It is a protected cultural monument .
The Jewish community of Niederzissen has its origins as early as the 13th century. The 1164 m² cemetery is located on the outskirts in the direction of Wehr . The cemetery originally reached the street and garages were built on the front part after the 1950s. The upper, smaller part of the cemetery is hidden in a small wood about 150 m south of the Sauerbrunnen . The Jews who died in Burgbrohl , Bürresheim , Kempenich , Niederweiler , Rieden and Volkesfeld were also buried in the cemetery. The last burial took place in 1942. Today there are still 85 tombstones ( mazewot ), the inscriptions of which are often no longer legible.
