The Jewish cemeteries in Remagen in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate were established before 1800 and 1889 respectively. They are protected cultural monuments .

Old graveyard

The Jewish community in Remagen has its origins as early as the 13th century. The date of the establishment of the old cemetery Auf der Heide is unknown. A report from 1853 states that the cemetery has been used for the burial of the Israelite community for a very long time . The cemetery, located two kilometers from the city center and in the forest, has an area of ​​2537 m². Today only about 21 gravestones made of sandstone and basalt remain, most of which date from the second half of the 19th century.

New cemetery

New Jewish cemetery in Remagen

The 526 m² Jewish cemetery is located on the corner of Alte Strasse and Schillerstrasse and was established by the Remagen Jewish community in 1889. The oldest surviving tombstone is from 1891 and the last burial took place in 1934. A total of 24 tombstones have been preserved, the oldest are set up in four rows with four to six stones each. The cemetery remained essentially undamaged during the Nazi era .
