He also coordinated various “regional action groups” in the Franconia area .

In 1996 he was elected to the Bavarian state board of the NPD . In 1998 he moved to the party's national executive committee. In February 1999 he became the newspaper's editor-in-chief. In 2001 he took part in the mayoral election of Riesa , but lost quite significantly with less than 1000 votes.

During the NPD ban proceedings in 2001 it was revealed that the Bavarian State Office for Protection of the Constitution had tried in April 2001 Distler as V-man win. This recruitment attempt took place after the prohibition proceedings became known and was cited by the responsible judges as one of the reasons for discontinuing the proceedings. As part of the international demonstrations against the NPD ban process, he gave a speech in Washington, DC in front of the "American Friends of the British National Party " and consulted with activists of the National Alliance .

Since May 2002, Distler was no longer listed as an editor at the German voice. He has not appeared as an activist since then.
