Jürgen Eick

Jürgen Eick (born March 24, 1920 in Dresden ; † May 13, 1990 in Rosenheim ) was a German business journalist , publicist and co-editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .

Life

Eick was born the son of a teacher. His father, who had become the director of a commercial college in Freital, was dismissed during the National Socialist era . Eick attended the Vitzthum-Gymnasium Dresden and was then committed to the Reich Labor Service and the Wehrmacht . He was seriously wounded and studied 1941-1944 political economy at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin (diploma). In 1942 he wrote one of the war booklets from the war library of the German youth , Panzerspähtrupp overdue , which served to inspire the German youth for National Socialism and war.

In 1947 he was at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Erlangen with a thesis on the economic consequences of the division of Germany into zones for Dr. rer. pole. PhD . He co-founded the Wirtschafts-Zeitung in Stuttgart. He then became the business editor of the Allgemeine Zeitung .

In 1949 he became head of the business editorial department at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . From 1963 to 1986 he was co-editor of the paper. In 1985 he became editor of the daily newspaper Die Neue Ärztliche Allgemeine Zeitung for clinics and practices . In addition, he was curator of the Fazit Foundation and author of numerous books. Eick achieved his first major journalistic success in 1955 with the book Angina Temporis , which he had written with Kurt Gauger . In other publications, he mainly devoted himself to economic policy issues.

The editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Jürgen Jeske , paid tribute to Eick in the obituary A life for the newspaper and the market economy . Jeske emphasizes in the introduction: “It was a stroke of luck for business journalism in the Federal Republic and for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, to whose founding generation he was one. Jürgen Eick was a committed campaigner for the social market economy, which Ludwig Ehrhard called a 'brother of the same spirit'. And he was a staunch German who was always worried about this country and its people. "

Eick was married and the father of two children.
