Jürgen Gausemeier (born March 26, 1948 in Littdorf ) is senior professor at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute at the University of Paderborn . The graduate engineer is also the initiator and chairman of the supervisory board of the consulting company UNITY AG. He has been a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) since 2003 and vice president since 2012. He is also chairman of the cluster board of the BMBF top cluster "Intelligent Technical Systems Ostwestfalen-Lippe ( it's OWL )".

Career

Jürgen Gausemeier did his doctorate at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technology at the TU Berlin with Professor Spur. In his twelve years in industry, Gausemeier was head of development for CAD / CAM systems and most recently head of the process control systems product area at a Swiss company. In 1990 he became a professor at the University of Paderborn . Gausemeier has published over 600 publications in specialist journals as well as for national and international conferences, written 8 books and has so far led 100 doctoral students to doctorate.

Research priorities

Gausemeier is senior professor at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute at the University of Paderborn with around 20 academic staff. His research focuses on:

Strategic product and technology planning

The focus is on the systematic determination of the requirements for the products for the markets of tomorrow and the associated planning of the corresponding production systems. In principle, it is about anticipating the development of technologies, markets and social environments and drawing conclusions for the development of business models as well as technology, product and business strategies. The scenario technique is used as the central method.

Development methodology for mechatronics / systems engineering

This includes design methods, specification techniques and design tools for mechatronic products that are based on a close interaction between mechanics, electronics and software technology. The focus is on supporting the early product development phase of the conception, which as a result delivers the basic solution. It is particularly important to specify all relevant views (functionality, behavior, design, etc.) across domains. The 2004 VDI guideline 2206 "Development methodology for mechatronic systems" was created under the chairmanship of Gausemeier.

Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Simulation

These technologies enable new interaction metaphors for computer-aided design and planning. On the one hand, this involves designing and analyzing technical systems (virtual prototyping and digital factory). On the other hand, the user’s access to products and complex technical systems that require explanation is to be improved.

More functions

Jürgen Gausemeier is involved as a member of the WiGeP - Scientific Society for Product Development (formerly Berliner Kreis) beyond the university boundaries. From 1994 to 2012 he was managing director and board member of WiGeP; In 2014 he received the WiGeP Medal of Honor. Jürgen Gausemeier was also Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Paderborn from 1999 to 2008. Gausemeier was the spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 614 “Self-Optimizing Systems in Mechanical Engineering” (2002–2013). From 2009 to 2014 Gausemeier was a member of the science council of the federal and state governments. He is also the author of numerous books. In 2014, together with Christoph Plass (board member UNITY AG), he wrote the 2nd, revised edition of the book "Zukunftsorientierte Unternehmensgestaltung".
