Jürgen Hillner

Jürgen Hillner (born July 14, 1937 in Sumatra ) is a German translator .

Life

Jürgen Hillner comes from a German-Baltic family. As a child he learned not only German but also Dutch and Malay . In 1951 the family moved from Indonesia to Germany . From the late 1950s Jürgen Hillner completed a study of the geology and mineralogy at the University of Kiel . He also started translating literary works. Hillner was friends with the writer Gerard Reve ; In the early 1970s lived in a house Hillner Reves in the Dutch town Westhem . Jürgen Hillner translated works of fiction from Dutch into German in the 1960s and 1970s . From 1974 to 1996 Hillner was a university professor for translation studies in Amsterdam.
