Jürgen Hunkemöller

Jürgen Hunkemöller (born February 20, 1939 in Coesfeld ) is a German musicologist and university professor .

Life

Hunkemöller studied school music at the University of Music in Heidelberg and musicology , philosophy , German and art history at the universities in Cologne and Heidelberg . After the successful state examination for secondary school teachers in Heidelberg in 1965 and research stays in Paris from 1966 to 1968 he earned a doctorate Dr. phil. with the work of WA Mozart's early sonatas for violin and piano: Studies on the history of the genre in the 18th century at the University of Heidelberg in 1968. He then worked there as a research assistant to Reinhold Hammerstein and Ewald Jammers .

In 1973 Hunkemöller switched to Schwäbisch Gmünd as a lecturer . From 1976 to 2004 he was professor of musicology at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Education .

In 1969 he became a lecturer in music history at the Heidelberg University of Music and then, after it was merged with the Mannheim University of Music , at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim . In 2008 he was appointed honorary professor there. As a visiting professor , Hunkemöller also taught at the Universities of Heidelberg, Kiel and Bern and at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest .

Research priorities

Hunkemöller's research is primarily focused on recent music history , on jazz and jazz reception, and on the subject of music and religion. His research approach follows anthropologically oriented concepts. For the revision of the encyclopedia Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (MGG) he was in charge of the jazz department as an advisory board.
