Jürgen Newig
Jürgen Newig (born March 30, 1941 in Westerland on Sylt ; † October 25, 2015 in Tenerife ) was a German geographer and geography educator .
Life
Jürgen Newig studied geography , geology , prehistory and German at the Universities of Tübingen and Kiel . There he received his doctorate in 1973 and habilitation in 1987. From 1984 he was professor for geography and geography teaching at the University of Education in Kiel and from 1994 at the Faculty of Education at the University of Kiel. He was director of the Geographical Institute at Kiel University. In 2005 he retired.
His projects included research into so-called cultural parts of the earth .
Newig was married with two children and a foster child.
