Jürgen Piquardt (* 1941 in Weimar ) is a German restaurateur and author who lives in Provence in France .

life and career

Piquardt left the GDR in 1961. Since 1972 he has lived temporarily, from 2012 all year round, in the French Provence on an estate with an olive plantation.

Piquardt and his wife Heike have been running the La Provence restaurant in the Hanoverian district of Ricklingen since 1977 and the Paradies bar since 2000 . The restaurants have been consistently ecological since 1986, for which they have already received awards. At the end of 2012, Piquardt gave up his catering activities in Hanover-Ricklingen in order to work more intensively as an author and to concentrate on his work with the top BIOS chefs , an expert committee of the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food.

Piquardt is committed to the further spread of the French game of boule / pétanque in Lower Saxony . Since 1996 he has been organizing a boules festival in Hanover's Georgengarten, which is well-known beyond the city limits . The Whitsun table, which is to become the longest dining table in Europe, is integrated into the festival, which always takes place from Ascension Day to Pentecost. For Piquardt, boule / petanque is a "social game": only low costs for the game material / equipment, and all social classes play together. From 1997 to 2006 Piquardt organized the Hanover Gourmet Festival: the summer festival of the round table on Ballhofplatz in the old town. From 1999 on, the main motto was: Sustainable enjoyment - cooking with ecological food.

Since 2001 Piquardt has been a regular contributor to the Hanoverian street magazine Asphalt-Magazin for the healthy eating column . In June 2007, the Lutheran publishing house published Der Genuss des Einfach: A culinary compendium . In the book, Piquardt describes the simple way of enjoying and healthy cuisine. This resulted in the 12 commandments - instructions for a healthier diet , which were projected onto the Wittenberg Castle Church on December 7, 2008 (2nd Advent).

Jürgen Piquardt has been a cooking animator at Euro-Toques ( European Culinary Heritage Foundation ) since 2006 and was appointed to the top BIOS working group in 2004 by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture . 20 top chefs nationwide have the task of demonstrating the enjoyment value of organic food under the title organic tastes! to propagate.

In 2008, Piquardt was asked to help shape the largest gourmet festival in Lower Saxony Hanover is (s) t fantastic on Opernplatz: The festival should pursue sustainable content. So z. B. the participating restaurateurs are obliged to use ecological, regional products. This was achieved in 2010 when Piquardt last participated as a co-organizer at the gourmet festival.
