Jürgen Schubert (born January 24, 1950 ) is a former German soccer player. In the 1970s he was active in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , for BSG Chemie Leipzig and 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig .

Athletic career

Until 1965 Jürgen Schubert played in the junior division of the company sports association (BSG) Traktor in the Leipzig suburb of Taucha . He then became a young player at BSG Chemie Leipzig. As part of his military service with the National People's Army , he played his first point games in higher-class football when he completed two GDR league games with the army sports community Vorwärts Meiningen in the 1969/70 season . After completing his military service, he returned to Chemie Leipzig in November 1970. There he was first used in the GDR league team Chemistry II in twelve point games. When in the second half of the 1970/71 season two league strikers failed at the same time, Schubert was called up in the remaining six league games in attack. Since the first team had to relegate to the GDR league at the end of the season, Schubert spent the 1971/72 season back in the second division. With 19 point games with five goals and eight games and one goal in the promotion games, he was instrumental in the immediate return to the league. In the following two league seasons, Schubert kept his regular place in the league team. Since BSG Chemie was relegated again in 1974 and the striker of local rival and league club 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig Hans-Bert Matoul unexpectedly ended his career, Schubert switched to 1. FC Lok for the 1974/75 season. There, too, he regained a regular position as a striker, but only scored two goals in his 22 league games. In 1975/76 he was out several game days and only made 15 league appearances and again only two goals. In the 1976/77 season he was only a substitute for 1. FC Lok and was only used twice as a substitute in the first half of the season. At the start of the second half of the season, Schubert rejoined BSG Chemie Leipzig. This played after relegation again in the GDR league, and in the remaining eleven point games Schubert was used in seven games in which he scored four goals. The BSG Chemie remained second class for two more seasons, in which Schubert was particularly successful in 1977/78. He only missed one point game and was the chemistry team's top scorer with nine goals. 1978/79 he was involved with 17 point game and six promotion game inserts in the return to the league. Then Schubert played his last season in the league. He was in 1979/80 with 24 completed games in attack or in midfield once again a regular for the chemists. They did not manage to stay in the league and returned to the GDR league for another three years. Schubert still played two seasons, in which he only played seven league games. After the end of the 1981/82 season, he ended his career in competitive football. There he had been active for thirteen seasons in which he had completed 114 league games with 13 goals and 90 GDR league games (23 goals).
