Jürgen Black

Jürgen Schwarze (born July 9, 1944 in Bielefeld ) is a German lawyer , emeritus full professor for German and foreign public law, European and international law at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . He is a litigator in proceedings before the EU courts as well as an expert in economic and European law.

Life

Black received his doctorate in 1969 at the University of Freiburg Dr. iur. He was a research assistant to Werner von Simson at the Institute for Public Law in Freiburg. In 1976 he received his habilitation there for public law and European law . After acting as professor at the universities of Munich and Heidelberg , he was appointed professor for public law at the University of Bochum in 1978 . From 1980 to 1989 he was full professor for public law with special consideration of European Community Law at the University of Hamburg and Director of the Dept. of European Community Law and the Institute for Integration Research of the Europa-Kolleg Foundation . In addition, he was professor at the European University Institute in Florence from 1985 to 1989, where he was director of the European Policy Unit. In 1989 he was offered a position at the University of Freiburg .

Schwarze is director of the Europa-Institut Freiburg eV He is a board member of the Scientific Society for European Law and a former board member of FIDE (Fédération Internationale pour le droit européen) and its former president (1994–1996). For many years he was chairman of the Scientific Society for European Law and the German Society for Comparative Law . He is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Society for Comparative Law.

He is honorary doctor of the University of Athens and the Leuphana University of Lüneburg as well as Honorary Bencher of the Inner Temple, London .
