Jürgen Schwoerbel

Jürgen Schwoerbel (born January 22, 1930 in Duisburg , † November 22, 2002 in Möggingen (Radolfzell) ) was a German limnologist . He taught at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the University of Konstanz .

Jürgen Schwoerbel studied zoology , botany , limnology and geology at the University of Innsbruck and the University of Freiburg . After receiving his doctorate on "Ecological and zoological studies on the mites (Acari, Hydrachnellae) in the springs and streams of the southern Black Forest and its peripheral areas", he became Hans-Joachim Elster's scientific assistant at the University of Freiburg. He now examined above all the colonization of the hyporheic interstitial .

After his habilitation in 1966, he became a university lecturer. In 1971 he was appointed professor at the University of Freiburg. Since 1980 he has also held teaching duties at the University of Konstanz . Jürgen Schwoerbel was the founder and author of the textbook on limnology, which quickly became a standard textbook (as sole author for eight editions), as well as a paperback on "Methods of Hydrobiology". He was also the editor of several specialist books on the freshwater fauna of Central Europe.

Schwoerbel was involved in the 1974 film "Fließgewasser" published by the Institute for Film and Image in Science and Education (FWU No. 32 02843).
