Jürgen Seul (* 1962 in Ahrweiler ) is a German lecturer , editor and author .

Life

Until 1994 Seul studied law , literature and history at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn . This was followed by initially working in the archive of social democracy of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Bad Godesberg as well as the legal clerkship at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court. After working as a freelance lawyer , he switched to the publishing industry in 2002, where he worked for several years as a lecturer and editor for several publishers. The lawyer has been working as a freelance journalist since 2009.

Following the work of Erich Wulffen, the focus of his academic work is on dealing with the legal aspects in the life and work of writers such as Karl May , Jules Verne , Ludwig Thoma and others. The results of this research are publications such as “Old Shatterhand in front of the court” (2009), “Ludwig Thoma for lawyers” (2010) and “Where are the Buddenbrooks?” (2010) as well as a series of articles in the feature section of the “Legal Tribune ONLINE” magazine. In addition, Seul's articles appear regularly in the magazine for literature and contemporary criticism “Glanz & Elend”.

The lawyer is a member of two literary associations, the Karl May Society (1992) and the Hans Fallada Society (2015).

The well-known criminal law professor Claus Roxin commissioned Seul in 1996 to publish a series of legal publications by the Karl May Society. It is the only legal publication series in the German cultural area dedicated to a writer. Within this series of publications, Seul was able to identify the diverse campaigns of the journalist Rudolf Lebius (1868–1946), with whom May primarily had to deal with in the last decade of his life.

From 2009-2010 Seul was also the editor of the newspaper “Nautilus”, published by the German Jules Verne Club.
