Jüri Rumm is the title of an Estonian silent film from 1929.
Movie
The adventure film was directed by Johannes Loop (stage name "John Loop"), who in the same year had already made the Estonian feature film Vigased pruudid together with Konstantin Märska . The film was produced by Märska's production company Konstantin Märska Filmiproduktsioon . Jüri Rumm is one of two Märska's feature films that are still preserved today.
The basis for the script was the widely popular novel Jüri Rumm. Algupärane romaan Eestimaalt by Hans Varesoo . He describes the adventures of the legendary Estonian horse thief Jüri Rumm, a kind of Estonian Robin Hood . Many scenes from the film also come from Estonian folklore.
The film premiered in Tallinn on December 11, 1929 and was shown in the two capital city cinemas Grand-Marin and Rekord .
The critics were less likely to like the exaggerated style of play of the actors and the implausible sets. However, the successful camera work by Märska and the well-acted fight scenes were highlighted.
