Jānis Pauļuks
Jānis Pauļuks (born November 12 . Jul / 24. November 1865 greg. In Lielsesava in Jelgava , † 21st June 1937 in Bauska ) was a Latvian politician of the party Farmers' Union of Latvia ( Latvijas Zemnieku Savienība ) and Prime Minister .
Life
Pauļuks was appointed Minister of Transport on June 19, 1921 by Prime Minister Zigfrīds Anna Meierovics . On January 27, 1923 he was appointed Prime Minister as successor to Meierovics . At the same time he took over the offices of Foreign Minister and Minister of Transport. However, he only held the post of Prime Minister for a few months until June 27, 1923 and was then replaced by Meierovics.
Meierovics then reappointed him as Minister of Transport. He also held this office in the subsequent governments of Voldemārs Zāmuels and Hugo Celmiņš until December 23, 1925.
In 1934 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Latvia together with Kārlis Ulmanis .
