history

Aerial view of the company headquarters

In 1819 Johann-Dietrich Theile merged various production facilities and founded the company in Schwerte . During this time, up to 180 chain home smiths were employed. The company was transferred to his son Fritz Theile in the middle of the 19th century.

The founder's grandson, also Fritz Theile, took up the factory production of ship chains and thus created the basis of today's chain factory. Fritz Theile handed the company over to his son-in-law Wilhelm Hidding at the beginning of the 20th century. He introduced the factory-made production of heavy anchor bar chains and built up production based on the technological aspects of welding and tempering processes. Under his leadership, the company was primarily involved in the mechanization of mining. When he died in 1959, he left the company to his son Jürgen Hidding. Under this the company became internationally active in the 80s. Here JD Theile is a supplier of complete chain systems both in mining and in the industrial sector.

His son Jan-Dirk Hidding has been running the company since the early 1990s. Today around 200 people are employed.
