J. Buell Snyder (1939)

John Buell Snyder (born July 30, 1877 in Somerset County , Pennsylvania , †  February 24, 1946 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1946 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born on a farm, Buell Snyder attended public schools in his home country and later the summer semesters at Harvard University and Columbia University . He then graduated from Lock Haven Teachers College . Then he worked in the school service. Between 1901 and 1912 he ran various schools in his home country. From 1912 to 1932 he was the manager of a publishing house active in the education sector. Between 1922 and 1932 he served on the Perry Ward Education Committee. From 1921 to 1923, he was the legislative liaison to the Pennsylvania State School Directors ( Legislative Representative for Pennsylvania School Directors ). From 1922 to 1924 he was a member of the National Commission of One Hundred federal commission that examined elementary schools across the United States.

In the 1932 congressional election , Snyder was elected as the Democratic Party candidate in the 24th  constituency of Pennsylvania to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Republican Samuel Austin Kendall on March 4, 1933 . After six re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on February 24, 1946 . Since 1945 he represented the 23rd district of his state there. During his time in Congress, the Roosevelt New Deal laws were passed there until 1941 . In 1935 the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were applied for the first time , according to which the legislative period of the Congress ends or begins on January 3rd. Since 1941, the work of the Congress was also shaped by the events of the Second World War and its consequences.
