J. Cross (life dates unknown) was a Scottish football player .

Career

Cross played for the Albion Rovers from Coatbridge , Scotland , in December 1893 he was part of the team that met Celtic Glasgow in the Scottish FA Cup 1893/94 in Celtic Park and lost 7-0. In March 1894 Cross, who acted as right back, came to the English first division club Nottingham Forest and was used on March 31 for the first time in a game of the United Counties League (as well as center forward Tommy Rose ); the game in front of 2,000 spectators at Sheffield United ended in a 0-0 draw.

A week later he made his debut in a 2-0 win against Newton Heath - both goals scored John Brodie - in the last home game of the Football League First Division in 1893/94 in defense alongside Adam Scott , who was also from the Albion in 1890 Rovers moved to Nottingham. After another use in the United Counties League (0-3 against Derby County ), as in the two previous games at Scott's side, his time at Nottingham ended again as he was not committed beyond the end of the season. Cross returned to the Albion Rovers and was part of a national team from Lanarkshire in November 1894 , which was defeated 5-2 in an association selection game against Ayrshire . In high-class football, Cross appeared for the last time in the 1896/97 season as a player for FC Clyde .
