JW Feighner

James Wilbur Feighner (born September 17, 1916 in Marion , Indiana , † December 30, 2004 ) was an American manager and politician .

Life

Feighner studied at Purdue University , where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering in 1939 . After graduating, he worked from 1939 to 1941 as a sales engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corporation . In August 1941 he married Margaret Gordon Richards. The marriage resulted in three children, two daughters and one son. From 1941 to 1942 he worked as an application engineer for Servel, Inc. In 1942 Feighner joined the United States Army Air Corps and served in the China Burma India Theater (CBI) in East Asia during World War II . In 1946 he retired from military service with the rank of captain . Feighner now worked for Tom Huston Peanut Co. , where his wife's father was president. Over the years he worked his way up to become President and Chief Executive Officer himself . He later moved to the board of directors of General Mills , to which the Tom Huston Peanut Co. now belonged.

In 1982 Feighner was elected Mayor of Columbus , Georgia . He held this position from 1983 to 1986. In the second half of 1983, he became a member of the board of directors of the food company Flowers Industries .
