J. Wolfgang Wägele
Johann Wolfgang Wägele (born October 21, 1953 in Neuwied ) is a German zoologist .
Live and act
Wägele, born in Neuwied in 1953, spent his childhood and youth in Bogotá in Colombia . After studying biology and chemistry for high school teaching at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, graduating with the first state examination , Wolfgang Wägele did his doctorate in zoology on the subject of "Evolution of the Anthuridea (Crustacea, Isopoda)".
After being employed as an academic advisor at the University of Oldenburg and completing his habilitation on “Evolution and the phylogenetic system of the Isopoda”, Wolfgang Wägele accepted the call to professor for “Morphology and Systematics of Animals” at Bielefeld University (1991). This was followed by a call to the chair of “Special Zoology” at the Ruhr University Bochum (1996).
Due to the foreseeable retirement of the chair holder "Special Zoology" at the University of Bonn and director of the Zoological Research Museum Alexander Koenig , Clas Naumann , a joint appointment procedure between the University of Bonn and the Zoological Research Museum Alexander Koenig - Leibniz Institute for Animal Biodiversity began (as usual) while Naumann was still in office. In 2004, Wolfgang Wägele followed the call resulting from this procedure to take over the position. In 2015 he was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz .
In addition to his work as a professor and museum director, Wolfgang Wägele has other tasks. These are u. a.

Wolfgang Wägele is married to Heike Wägele and has two sons.
