General

The organization was founded in 2007 by the then Federal Councilor Micheline Calmy-Rey , JUNES today unites twelve associations from three Swiss language regions. The majority of the member clubs are Model United Nations teams. These associations regularly carry out simulations of various UN conferences. In addition, they organize various events on topics relating to the objectives, tasks and problems of the UN.

aims

  1. To promote cooperation and coordination between Swiss youth organizations dealing with the UN on a non-profit basis;
  2. To simplify the exchange of information and knowledge between the groups in order to use synergies as efficiently and sensibly as possible;
  3. To give the individual groups more weight and recognition towards third parties in order to facilitate access to sponsors and guest speakers;
  4. Raising the young population's awareness of UN issues;
  5. To offer an opportunity to consult young people on UNO-relevant topics in order to take their opinions into account for decisions.
  6. JUNES works closely with the regional youth organizations.
  7. JUNES can join other organizations at home or abroad that pursue the same or a similar purpose.

Projects

The organization coordinates the activities of its member associations at national level and carries out various projects. Every year the national Model United Nations conference takes place with participants from all over Switzerland, the JUNESMUN. At this conference negotiations between various UN bodies are simulated and current UN issues are discussed.

The Intra-Swiss Forum on the United Nations (ISYFUN) also takes place annually with a visit to the UN area in Geneva as well as a workshop on a UN-relevant topic, a MUN workshop (training in the field of rhetoric, rules of procedures or the like ), a panel discussion and MiniMUN (Model United Nations Conference at High Schools).

In addition to these annual projects, one-off projects are also carried out. In 2011 a UN Youth General Assembly took place in the Federal Palace in connection with the election of Joseph Deiss as President of the General Assembly of the United Nations . A media workshop in the same year for MUN teams from all over Europe had the aim of strengthening the communication skills of the UN youth associations and to raise public awareness of UN issues more effectively. In 2013, an intercultural study project on the subject of corporate social responsibility took place. As part of this project, events were held in Switzerland and a study trip to Ghana in cooperation with UNYA Ghana.

collaboration

The organization is a member of the SAJV (Swiss Association of Youth Associations) and UNYANET (United Nations Youth Associations Network), a Europe-wide network of UNYAs. JUNES also works with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs ( FDFA ), the Switzerland-UN Society (GSUN), the UN Young Network Germany , the Swiss Society for Foreign Policy (SGA) and the UN Academia.
