Jaanus Marrandi (born March 23, 1963 in Paide , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian politician . In 2007/2008 he was party leader of the Estonian People's Union ( Eestimaa Rahvaliit ).

Jaanus Marrandi graduated from Türi Middle School in 1981 . Until 1986 he studied at the Estonian Agricultural Academy ( Eesti Põllumajanduse Akadeemia ) in Tartu . There he graduated as a water management engineer .

From 1988 to 1993 Marrandi was employed by the Estonia collective farm , then from 1993 to 1996 as chairman and from 1996 to 1999 as vice chairman of the successor organization OÜ Estonia . He held numerous seats on supervisory boards.

From January 2002 to April 2003, Marrandi was Minister of Agriculture in Prime Minister Siim Kallas' cabinet . He has been a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) since 1999 . From 1998 to 2004, Jaanus Marrandi was a member of the populist center-left Estonian Center Party ( Eesti Keskerakond ) before converting to the rural Estonian People's Union ( Eestimaa Rahvaliit ).

After the resignation of party chairman Villu Reiljan because of the devastating defeat in the parliamentary elections in 2007 , Jaanus Marrandi was elected chairman of the Estonian People's Union on April 27, 2007. He held the office until November 1, 2008. His successor was Karel Rüütli .
