Jacek Jaśkowiak (born March 10, 1964 in Poznan ) is a Polish politician of the Platforma Obywatelska and has been mayor of Poznan since 2014 .

Life and work

Jaśkowiak is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan . During his studies, he came for a semester with a scholarship of GFPS at the University of Bielefeld . During his studies he was also involved in the Union of Rural Youth, which the PiS later accused him of.

In the early 1990s he was commercial director at Kulczyk Tradex. In 1997 he became the owner of a business consultancy and in 2007 he became the President of the Management Board of the “Jaśkowiak” commercial law firm, which provides accounting and advisory services to foreign medium-sized companies. In 1997 he met the singer Jacek Kaczmarski , whose manager he became. After his death he gave lectures in schools about his life and work.

In the election for mayor of Poznan in 2010, he ran for the election committee “Our Poznan”, but only achieved fourth place in the re-election of the incumbent incumbent Ryszard Grobelny with 7.2% of the vote. In 2013 he joined the Platforma Obywatelska , for which he ran again against Grobelny in the 2014 city presidential election. In the first ballot he was still behind Grobelny, who had received 28.6% of the votes with 21.5% of the votes, but he was able to prevail in the necessary runoff with 59.1% of the votes and replace his 16-year-old predecessor . In the election in October 2018, in which he stood for the electoral alliance Koalicja Obywatelska from PO and Nowoczesna , he was able to defeat the PiS candidate Tadeusz Zysk, de 21.3% of the votes, with 56.0% of the votes in the first ballot reached, and five other candidates prevail. In 2018 he took over the patronage for the "Poznań Pride Week".

He applied for the internal party candidate list of the PO for the presidential election in Poland 2020 , but could not prevail at the PO party congress with 125 delegate votes against Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska , who received 340 votes.
