Małgorzata Maria Kidawa-Błońska (born May 5, 1957 in Warsaw as Małgorzata Grabska ) is a Polish film producer and politician of Platforma Obywatelska (PO). In 2015 she was President of the Polish Parliament and, according to precedent, the second highest ranking person in the Polish state.

Life

In 1982, she graduated in sociology at the University of Warsaw from. She then worked in the film industry. From 2001 she got involved in Warsaw local politics. In 2005 she was elected to the Sejm , the lower house of the Polish parliament, for the first time , to which she remains a member after being re-elected in 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019. From 2014 to 2015 she was the press spokesperson for the government, first of the second cabinet of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and then of the cabinet of Ewa Kopacz .

On June 24, 2015, Kidawa-Błońska was officially proposed as the PO candidate for the office of President of the Polish Parliament, succeeding Radosław Sikorski . It was also supported by the co-governing PSL . On June 25, 2015 she was elected to this post with 244 votes. In the 2015 parliamentary elections in Poland , she was re-elected with 80,866 votes on October 25, 2015, and was elected Deputy President of the Polish Parliament on November 12, 2015.

On September 3, 2019, she was proposed by the then chairman of the PO, Grzegorz Schetyna , as a candidate for 1st place on the Warsaw election list in the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2019 and as the future head of government in the event of an election victory. In the parliamentary elections on October 13, 2019, she was re-elected as a member of Parliament with 416,030 votes. In December 2019, the PO presented Kidawa-Błońska initially as a candidate for the 2020 presidential election in Poland . However, due to poor poll results, she decided not to run in favor of Rafał Trzaskowski .

Kidawa-Błońska is a great-granddaughter of the former Polish President Stanisław Wojciechowski and the former Prime Minister Władysław Grabski . She is married to the film director Jan Kidawa-Błoński and has one son.
