Józef Zych (born March 23, 1938 in Giedlarowa ) is a Polish lawyer and politician of the Polish Peasant Party .

Life

Zych studied law at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan , where he received his master's degree in 1966 and his doctorate in 1976 . He worked as a legal advisor for peasant rings (Kółka rolnicze , mutual peasant aid) and for energy supply companies. From 1984 to 1991 he was chairman of the Provincial Council of Justice (Krajowa Rada Radców Prawnych) .

Since 1978 he has been a member of the former United Peasant Party , which was later renamed the Polish Peasant Party again. Between 1989 and 2015 he was a member of the Sejm for the constituency of Zielona Góra and was elected a total of eight times, making him the second-oldest member of the parliament after Stanisław Żelichowski . Since 1991 he was deputy Sejm Marshal, after the early election in 1993 he was re-elected. After Józef Oleksy moved from the Sejm Marshal's post to the Cabinet in March 1995, Zych succeeded him as President of Parliament and held the post until the end of the legislative period in October 1997. In December 1995 he was Chairman of the National Assembly , which was responsible for taking the oath of office from the President Aleksander Kwaśniewski met. From July 2004 to October 2005 Zych was again Deputy Sejm Marshal. After the 2005 and 2011 elections, he chaired the opening session of the Sejm as its senior president . In November 2012, Zych was declared honorary chairman of the Polish Peasant Party.
