Career

society

The dark-skinned goalkeeper Callero, who came from a poor family background, began playing football at the nearby Canelones-based Club Reformers in 1960. In the same year, at the age of 15, he signed a contract with the Montevidean club Nacional . He made his debut with the Bolsos in the Quinta (5th Division). Opponent of this debut game played in Las Acacias was Peñarol . His path now led over the team of the Cuarta (4th División) to the actual reserve team Nacionals in the Tercera División , the so-called Tercera especial . His teammates at that time included Yamandú Solimando , Roberto Sosa , the son of Aníbal Paz , Jorge Paz and Rogelio Domínguez . Benefiting from an injury to Roberto Sosa, he then played in a game against Peñarol in the Primera División . The venue for the 1-0 win was the Estadio Centenario . In the following years he came to a few more missions. In 1966 he was Uruguayan champion with the Bolsos . In 1967 he moved to the Rampla Juniors . In 1976 he was a member of the Defensors team. He was supported by the two goalkeeping competitors Freddy Clavijo and the young Fernando Álvez .

National team

Callero was a member of the Uruguayan senior team . For this he completed an international match against Romania held in the Estadio Centenario in 1967, which took place in the run-up to the South American Championship that year. Callero also belonged to the squad of Uruguay selected by Juan Carlos Corazzo at this South American Championship in 1967 , which the Celeste decided in their favor. Callero, however, was only the third goalkeeper behind regular goalkeeper Mazurkiewicz and his deputy Bazzano during the tournament . In the following year he was appointed to the department selection of Canelones .
