Viola Beach was a British indie rock band. All members died in a car accident in February 2016.
The band was formed in May 2015 and came from Warrington (Northern England). The first single was called Swings and Waterslides . More singles and performances at festivals, clubs and UK television followed .
accident
On the night of February 13, 2016, the band's rental car crashed into a canal near Södertälje ( Stockholms län ). The band was from Norrköping ( Östergötland County ) - where they performed at the Where's the Music? had - on the way to Stockholm , from where she wanted to travel home by plane. All four band members and their manager Craig Tarry died in the accident. The car had apparently broken through a barrier that was supposed to prevent access to an approximately 25 m high movable bridge on the E4 / E20 motorway over the Södertälje Canal when it was open. The bridge is being pulled up for ships using the canal.
As a result of the coverage, their releases received more attention and they posthumously reached number 11 in the UK charts with their single Swings & Waterslides .
The judicial investigation of the accident by a coroner in Great Britain showed that manager Craig Terry, who was the driver of the vehicle, was neither under the influence of alcohol nor drugs at the time of the accident. The cause of the accident remained unresolved as the driver had enough time to stop when he broke through two barriers in succession. A traffic accident was found to be the official cause of death.
