Jack Garman
John Royer "Jack" Garman (born September 11, 1944 in Oak Park, Illinois ; † September 20, 2016 near Houston, Texas ) was an American computer scientist and long-time employee of NASA . He was best known for his participation in the first manned moon landing on July 20, 1969, during which he correctly classified several computer errors and thus prevented the landing from being aborted. Garman was also part of the team that received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1970 for rescuing the Apollo 13 crew .
2000 Garman switched to the private sector for the OAO Corporation. After this was bought by Lockheed Martin two years later, he was there technical director for cooperation with NASA.
