John "Jack" Lambert (born May 2, 1902 in Rotherham , † December 7, 1940 in Enfield ) was an English football player .

life and career

After a trial at Sheffield Wednesday , where he was not accepted, Lambert began his football career at Rotherham County in 1922. Lambert was well known as a tall and robust striker. He made his first move to Leeds United . In January 1925 he was signed by the Doncaster Rovers . In 1926 he went to Arsenal for £ 2,000 . He made his debut for the Gunners on September 6, 1926 against the Bolton Wanderers . With the team he was English cup winner in 1930 and English champion in 1931 and 1933. In October 1933 he was sold to Fulham FC . In 1935 he ended his active career. After a year as a coach at Margate FC, he returned to Arsenal in 1938 and coached the second team there. Lambert died in 1940 in a car accident near Enfield at the age of 38.
