Two recordings were enough for Jack Ross to gain international recognition. Until the early 1960s, only a few music lovers on the US West Coast knew him as a trumpet soloist. In the 1950s a 78 RPM single with two trumpet solos was released, and in 1960 a long-playing record with the Dick Lane Quartet with swing titles was released. Jack Ross was known to some nightclub goers as an entertainer. At the end of 1961, the Californian record company Dot Records decided to release Jack Ross, a single with the instrumental titles Happy Jose (Ching-Ching) and Sweet Georgia Brown .

After the record hit the US market in November 1961, the track Happy Jose appeared for the first time in the Hot 100 of the US music magazine Billbord on January 13, 1962 . Starting from 90th place, it rose to 57th place and stayed in the Hot 100 for six weeks. In the competing magazine Cashbox , Happy Jose reached 53rd place and held its own for eight weeks. Despite its only mediocre success in the USA, Happy Jose spread worldwide. In Germany, where the title was distributed by the British record company London Records , it achieved the greatest international success, in the specialist magazine Musikmarkt it rose to number seven and was listed in the top 50 for 25 weeks. In addition to Great Britain, London published Happy Jose in Greece, Israel, Australia and New Zealand.

Two months later, Dot distributed a completely different piece with Jack Ross. With the comedy title Cinderella Ross showed himself from his entertainer side. With his spoken cabaret text in a live atmosphere, he hit the nerve of the American audience, so that this record was also a sales success in the USA. Cinderella was in the Billboard Top 10 for nine weeks and rose to number 16, with Cashbox the title reached rank 35. This was followed by two more singles on Dot, whose titles were unsuccessful. After his short record career ended, Jack Ross experienced a reverberation of his successes when he appeared on the Perry Como Show on May 22, 1963. He died in 1982 at the age of 66.
